FRENCH students linked to Teignmouth Community College were given an official reception by the mayor, Cllr Ian Parkes.

The youngsters from Lycee Coliniere, in Nantes, Brittany, were welcomed at Bitton House by Cllr Parkes, along with host families, and college staff.

He presented a scroll to the French staff, and Julie Browning, a Teignmouth teacher, gave all the visitors a T-shirt.

The college has strong links with colleges across Europe, but the French connection is probably the longest.

'We are expanding our links in the future. It is an excellent opportunity for our students to broaden their horizons, learn how to socialise, mix with others and communicate effectively,' said a college spokesman.

'It is a growing up experience for many of our students, and one which you cannot buy through a package deal with a tour operator.

'Travelling is great fun and helps you to appreciate your own home life and situation more.

The local twinning association has also offered to do some fund-raising to give more students the chance of travelling.'
