AROUND 50 bikers acted as outriders for the funeral cortege of a well-known Teignmouth two wheeler.

They escorted the hearse from the Tom Clark funeral office in Teign Street to Torquay Crematorium, where a service was held in the chapel for Kevin Blaxland, 58, who died of cancer.

Funeral director Caz Denning said it was an impressive and moving sight, especially as the procession drove across Shaldon Bridge.

His sister Susan Edwards, from London, thanked all those who gave her brother such an appropriate send-off.

Kevin was a regular at the Tuesday night biker social sessions at the Whistlestop Cafe, where they raise money for charities, and owner Melissa Middleton described the response from the bikers as ‘fabulous.’

‘They formed up here at the cafe, and it just shows how respectful they can be. They came from all over south Devon.’

The service was followed by a wake at the Devon Arms pub in Teignmouth.
