THE popular information boards scattered around the Teignmouth area could be expanded.

The organisers of the Teignmouth Heritage Trail want to add another nine boards, which provide information on historical and other places of interest.

The cost, including planning permissions, brochures, and all the fittings, will total about £16,000 and sponsorship and grants will be sought.

Teignmouth town councillors backed the proposal at committee, and Cllr Sylvia Russell said the boards created a lot of interest, adding: 'People do look at them, both locals and visitors'.

Cllr June Green described the expansion as 'an excellent idea', and Cllr Terry Falcao said it helped to boost tourism.

Members agreed to support the scheme in principle, but pointed out that the budget for the coming year had already been set. The matter will be reviewed later in the year to see if there is any spare cash available to help with the costs.<
