MORE than 90 people attending a meeting of the Bovey Tracey Residents’ Association heard that Devon County Council had not been persuaded to display further 30mph signs in Le Molay Littry Way.

The police were thanked for their efforts to reduce speeding and it was reported that more than 70 per cent of motorists were exceeding the speed limit and they intended to take more rigorous action soon.

Unofficial signs warning drivers to slow down as children could be crossing the road were shown to the audience, and a request is to be made to temporarily display the signs.

The meeting heard that the organisation which will run the town’s library on behalf of Devon County Council is progressing well. The Bovey Library Action Support Team (Blast) has organised several successful events.

As regards the Old Thatched Inn site, in Station Road, confirmation of an estimate for the site’s redevelopment and possible resultant council tax demands was awaited as more than £100,000 had already been spent on its purchase and the demolition of the inn’s remnants.

A request is being made to the town council that a valuation of the site is carried out with a view to possible sale if the costs of reconstruction prove prohibitive.

It was noted with approval that amplification is now used during council meetings in the town hall, and that a request has been made for the council to consider having a short informal meeting between those attending and councillors before the official council meeting begins so that any points can be dealt with or, if necessary, carried over to the formal meeting.

After hearing that Le Molay Littry Way is to be closed at Bradley Bends for up to three months from January, concern was expressed that a diversion could entail travelling along the A38.

Residents agreed to call for at least a single, traffic light-controlled access to and from Chudleigh Knighton and Bovey Tracey while work is carried out.

The excess from money donated to cover the meeting expenses was donated to the charity Homeless in Teignbridge Support.
