TEIGNMOUTH’S monthly beach wildlife walk and tidy-up event is becoming so popular, more litter-picking sticks and bags will be needed.

So many volunteers turned up for the February walk, that extra bags had to be found and volunteers shared picking sticks.

Organiser Cllr Alison Eden said: ‘The walk, talk and tidy is attracting more and more helpers every month. People are getting used to the routine of meeting on the last Sunday of the month, and are bringing their friends.

‘We’ve got people of all ages, coming along to do a bit of picking, and find out about the beach wildlife. It’s also a great opportunity for Teignmouth residents to talk about the things they love about our town, and discuss how we can all work together to make it better.’

On Sunday, as well as litter, thanks to the very low tide, regular wildlife guide Howie Watkins was able to lead a hunt for seaside beasts like sea anemones that are normally difficult to see without wading out into the sea.

He has a passion for Beadlet anemones, and feels they don’t get the attention they deserve.
