‘BE safe and look out for each other’, say police as a Dartmoor village gears up for its 100th carnival this evening, Thursday, August 28.

Roads through Moretonhampstead will be closed to allow the carnival procession, which starts at 6.30pm, to safely pass through the moorland town.

No traffic will be allowed through the town until the closure is lifted.

Some closures will remain until the entirely of the carnival has finished.

A spokesperson for the Ashburton and Chudleigh Policing Team said: ‘Please arrive in plenty of time to find parking and get your position to watch the procession and enjoy the festivities of the evening.

‘Please be patient if you are stopped at a road closure and do not give the Marshalls who are all volunteers a hard time.

‘We hope you all have a great evening whatever the weather throws at you, be safe and look out for each other’.
