A BARN and its contents were totally destroyed in a fire at Newton Abbot yesterday afternoon (Sunday).

Crews from Newton Abbot and Torquay attended a small agricultural building on fire in Shaldon Road, Newton Abbot, at 1.20pm.

A spokesperson for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘On arrival, crews got to work with two hose reel jets to put the fire out.

‘The small barn was being used as part of an agricultural small holding.

‘The building and its contents were totally destroyed by the fire, with an adjacent wooden shed also sustaining damage.

‘Crews confirmed the fire as accidental ignition.’
