A BARBECUE left in a compost bin caused a fire at a home in Bovey Tracey yesterday evening (Monday).

A spokesperson for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘A fire engine from Bovey Tracey attended a fire which started from a barbecue disposed of in an outside compost bin which spread to the facia and guttering of the domestic property.

‘Crews dampened down the guttering and gained access to the loft area to ensure the fire had not spread further, they isolated solar panels and checked for hotspots.

‘Crews used one hose reel jet, one thermal imaging camera, small tools and a short extension ladder.

‘The cause of this incident is believed to be accidental.’
