THE Great Teignmouth Bake-Off attracted more than 50 entries.
The event, based on the hugely-popular BBC show, was held at the Methodist Church Hall on Saturday, and besides providing a lot of fun, raised £555 for the local lifeboat fund.
The eventual winner was Louise Jarrett, in the under-16 category, who baked a sponge and iced it with the RNLI flag.
The judges, professionals Glen Cosby – who starred in a previous edition of the TV programme and is a former Teignmouth Community School teacher – Chris Houghton, from Luders Patisserie, and RNLI personnel Charlie Woolnough and Derrick Davies, rated it ‘an excellent sponge’, with technically difficult icing that looked ‘exceptionally good’.
The judges were unanimous in picking the winner and said the entries, which included a wide range of cakes and even some savoury recipes, were of a high standard.
‘The day was a great success with a lot of interest, and we would like to thank all those who took the time to bake cakes, and everybody who turned up to support us,’ said a lifeboat spokesman.
