THERE has been a triple happy event at Shaldon Zoo.

Three pygmy marmosets have been born and are surviving – possibly a world first.

Julie Matthews, education officer at the wildlife trust, said: 'Twins are quite common with this species of South African marmosets, and although triplets do occur, it is unheard of for all three to survive.

'They are now two months old and thriving.'
