THE campaign to save Ashburton’s St John Ambulance Hall as a community asset is going from strength to strength.
The ‘right to bid’ for the hall has been extended by St John from six months to a year and a steering committee of The Friends of Ashburton Community Hall has applied for grant funding from Viridor.
The hall cannot be sold on the open market during this one-year period.
Kay Graymore, chairman of the Friends’ group, said: ‘Almost an entire year has gone since the visit by St John Ambulance announcing the closure and sale of the hall. Notices for a town meeting flooded the town and the response was excellent.
