NEW RAIL LINK PLAN BISECTS HALDON MOOR GOLF COURSE: In today’s edition of the Mid-Devon Advertiser we carry a story about the government which has done a U-turn and scrapped plans to build the High Speed 2 (HS2) rail link between London, Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester.

Instead parliament is to spend the £40 billion plus on diverting the main Paddington-Penzance railway line around Dawlish and Teignmouth.

It is proposed the line will branch off at the end of Hackney Marshes where a new station is to be built to serve Kingsteignton and Newton Abbot racecourse.

The route will then deviate towards Bishopsteignton and follow a line to Haldon, where it will enter a mile-long tunnel emerging on the west side of Teignmouth Golf Course.

This was of course an April Fool prank!
