A PEDESTRIAN walkway in Bovey Tracey that has ‘reached the end of its serviceable life’ could soon be replaced as an application seeking to demolish it is submitted to planners.
The replacement proposal of the steel walkway along the side of the Grade II listed Bovey Bridge in the town was received by Teignbridge District Council (TDC) on Monday, July 21.
According to the heritage statement for 25/01238/LBC, the walkway has ‘reached the end of its serviceable life and requires replacement’.
Submitted by Devon County Council (DCC), the application, which is seeking Listed Building Consent, also includes the construction of new supports in the leat.
Located to the southwest of the town centre, Bovey Bridge, a two-lane carriageway across the River Bovey, provides the main link for vehicles and pedestrians between the east and west sides of Bovey Tracey.
The original structure was built in the 17th century.
The stone masonry was widened around 1850, with the walkway being built in the 1900s.
A decision is to be made on or before September 15.
