THE developer behind the more than 1,000 home development at Wolborough Barton has submitted plans to satisfy the catchment condition relating to a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
Condition 20 of the outline planning permission for the proposed Newton Abbot housing development is concerned with protecting the hydrological function of Wolborough Fen SSSI.
‘No development shall take place within the Wolborough Fen SSSI hydrological catchment unless and until a scheme (based upon an evidence base agreed with the local planning authority in consultation with Natural England) has been submitted to and approved by the local planning authority [Teignbridge District Council] in consultation with Natural England which sets out detailed measures to ensure that the development does not have an adverse impact on the integrity of the Wolborough Fen SSSI during the construction or operation of the development’, the condition reads.
And this week developer Vistry Homes have submitted documentation to discharge the aforementioned condition.
The developer proposes to do this in three steps: agreeing an evidence base with the Local Planning Authority (LPA) in consultation with Natural England; proposing a scheme of measures to protect the SSSI during construction and operation and ensuring the scheme of measures is implemented.

The council are due to make a decision on or before November 13.
Wolborough Fen has been designated as a SSSI since 1990.
It is under the management of the Devon Wildlife Trust and Natural England.
