A BEATLES themed night is dedicated to raising funds for a defibrillator for a popular Teignmouth centre.

The Teignmouth charity has launched the appeal and a Beatles Music Night will surely help.

At 7.30pm on November 27, the Alice Cross Community Centre, known locally as The Alice, is hosting a music night themed around legendary British rock band, the Beatles, with a performance from local act – The Teigns.

The event is dedicated to raising money for a much-needed defibrillator and tickets can purchased either online or in person at the centre.

Tickets are £8 and a buffet is included with the price of admission.

There will also be a bar on-site where people can buy drinks to their leisure as well as a raffle with various prizes up for grabs.

Come the end of November The Alice are hoping to have raised £1,500 and the money is to be spent on a defibrillator – a device that delivers a high-energy electric shock to the heart of a person who is experiencing cardiac arrest, effectively rebooting the heart and, all being well, saving their life.

The sooner a shock is administered, the greater the chance a person’s life may be saved and it is for this reason that representatives of The Alice Cross Community Centre believe it is vital a defibrillator is made avaliable in the surrounding area.

On two separate occasions volunteers at The Alice were in need of a defibrillator and on both occasions were made to trek across town to fetch one as none existed at a closer location.

Diantha Coombes, a volunteer at the Teignmouth-based centre, said: ‘Purchasing a defibrillator is cause close to my heart as my family history suggests I could be vulnerable to heart problems.’

A member of The Teigns, Diantha has chosen to forego the consumption of alcohol for the entirety of November as a fundraiser – no alcohol is to flow but perhaps this chosen sacrifice will inspire the donations to come flooding in.
