SCHOOLCHILDREN at Shaldon are learning first-hand about boat building skills.

They are fitting out two regatta dinghy hulls, under the supervision of experts.

The primary school has leased the former ferryboat workshop for the project and the completed craft will be for sale at £1,500 each.

As well as the practical side of the venture, the Year 6 youngsters will also be drawing up a business plan for the production and marketing of the dinghies.

'This is another example of how the school is striving to provide excellent real life education for our children,' said a spokesman.
