AN exhibition showcasing abstract images of shoreline structures, textures and forms will open in Newton Abbot next month.

Maltings Taphouse will host ‘Strand: Where water meets land’ in August.

Organised and curated by marine naturalist Mike Puleston, the exhibition runs from August 16 until September 5.

‘The idea for this solo exhibition emerged from my month-long "Beyond all things is the Ocean" that ran from September to October in 2024’, says Mike.

For some years I have been recording intertidal marine species in various surveys and with the Shores of South Devon Marine Interest group, which I co founded, during which I have become increasingly fascinated by the topography of shores, particularly artificial ones such as concrete sea defences’, added Mike.

For the past nine months Mike has been photographing concrete structures, natural substrates and marine litter.

All images were taken in Torbay, Teignbridge, Plymouth Sound and Severn Beach in the Severn estuary.

‘I have used minimal post production on the images preferring to concentrate on composition and form’, says Mike.

‘The focus of the show is to give alternative views and perspectives of our local shorelines’, added Mike.

The exhibition will be open seven days a week during the Malting Taphouse’s opening hours.
