A CAMPER van fire has brought the A38 to a standstill northbound this afternoon.

Two fire appliances from Ashburton and Bovey Tracey fire stations were called to the blaze in a lay-by between East Linhay and Goodstone Cross just after 1.30pm.

Fire crews used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and stop it spreading.

And while the fire is now out, traffic is still queuing as fire crews liaise with National Highways.

The blaze caused the northbound carriageway between the A383 junction for Bickington and the A382 at Heathfield to become blocked, with smoke blowing across the road and traffic building up.
