MORE security warnings are being issued after further thefts of mopeds in Newton Abbot and the surrounding area.

Police have confirmed a KTM Duke was taken from the Milber area between 10pm on Friday August 12 and 5am on Saturday August 13. A spokesman said the vehicle has since been located by its owner.

Further thefts of mopeds are understood to have taken place over the same weekend in Buckland and Kingsteignton and some have subsequently been recovered.

Owners are again being urged to increase security of their vehicles.

Police are advising owners to be ‘cautious and vigilant’ and ensure bikes are secure to prevent them being targeted.

Officers are suggesting ways to keep mopeds safer.

These include using bike locks, chains and covers and making sure keys are removed.

The advice also suggests fitting an alarm and property marking which makes parts of the bike identifiable.

Bikes should be stored where possible in a secure part of the property such as a garage or shed.

Alternatively, park the bike in the safest place possible where CCTV may be available as well as street lighting or well overlooked.
