A MAN was airlifted to hospital after a speedboat accident off Teignmouth over the weekend.

The casualty, who has not been named, was flown by Devon Air Ambulance to Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital after the incident late on Saturday afternoon.

The aircraft flew in from Exeter and touched down on The Den before taking the casualty away just after 6pm.

Police, coastguards and the resort’s lifeboat were alerted after the man and a friend were reportedly flung from their boat which overturned off the resort.

The condition of the casualty, rescued by the local lifeboat crew, is not known. He is thought to have suffered an ankle injury.

The other occupant of the boat made it to shore on a private rib.

An RNLI spokesman said the lifeboat also recovered the speedboat.
