TWO people were rescued after they became stranded on a river island near Aish Tor on Dartmoor earlier today (Tuesday).

Fire engines from Ashburton and Buckfastleigh were sent to Dartmoor at 10.18am along with a specialist rescue team from Camels Head to reports of two people stranded on an island located in a river.

Rangers from Dartmoor National Park and Ambulance crews also attended and the two the casualties were successfully rescued from the island using a sled and rope system from the Specialist Rescue Vehicle.
