DINOSAURS penguins and even a deconstructed dragon roamed the streets of Ipplepen last Saturday night.

Fortunately no one was harmed as these wee beasts were of the lantern variety and part of the tenth St. Andrews Ipplepen candlelit procession.

The annual event is organised by the Ipplepen Local History Group and brings the community together and heralds the start of the Christmas season.

‘With the Christmas tree lit up and support provided by the Ipplepen Carnival Club with mulled wine and mince pies, it was a joyous occasion for a very cold winter night,’ said John Marsh, from Ipplepen Local History Group.

‘As well as the procession villagers entered the spirit of a ‘Window Wanderland’ where creative displays showed themes running from James Bond to Cinderella.’

Prizes for the lanterns went to the Buick Baker family, Abby and Rosie Carpenter, Zara Hossack and Jenny, Rob, and Arthur Andrew.

The overall trophy was won by the Buick Baker family. The Creativity Trophy sponsored by Jackie Edwards, Kingsteignton Town Cryer, went to George Webber for his Freddy the Phoenix.

Top prizes for the Window and Garden Displays went to Julie Miskin for ‘Under the Sea’ and Linda Large for ‘The Owl and the Pussycat.’

The history group would like to thank Ipplepen Carnival Club, the Bellringers, the Marshals, the Church, Shirley Northwood, Anthony Cottle and Judy Dewhirst for their help and support,’ continued John.

‘Thanks go also to all those who sponsored the prizes, namely Ipplepen WI, the House of Marbles, Jaspers Rickshaw, China Blue and Powderham Castle.’
