FIREFIGHTERS tackled a kitchen blaze in a flat above Teignmouth’s Oystercatcher’s Cafe this morning.

Two crews dealt with the small kitchen blaze in Northumberland Place just before midday.

The alarm was raised after a smoke detector was sounded at the flat above the premises.

A fire spokesman said the incident was caused by food being left in the oven.

A hosereel and safety jet were used to extinguish the blaze.
