A CAT which thought it was a duck was rescued from the River Lemon in Newton Abbot over the weekend.

The black moggy was spotted taking the waters in the Cricketfield Road area yesterday lunchtime.

A fire crew was called out to take a dip and retrieve the stranded pet from its place of no return.

The soaked creature was able to hug the bank of the river rather than suffer the indignity of splashing hopelessly around in the wet stuff.

Firefighters used a ladder to get into the shallow stream and retrieve the grateful casualty.
