A SHEEP was rescued by firefighters after its escape from a field in Teignmouth ended with a slight mishap.

The bewildered fugitive ended up in a ditch next to a house and its garden fence in Sawyer Drive late Tuesday afternoon (April 24).

The runaway, moments before, cleared a fence to get out o­f its homestead only to come a cropper in the outside world.

Two crews from the resort were sent to the scene of its undoing where they grabbed the stranded stray and handed it back to the farmer.

The alarm was raised just after 5pm.

A fire spokesman said: ‘We moved a few bits and pieces to get to it. The sheep jumped out and we held on to it until the farmer arrived. The animal was fine.’
