A 20-year-old man has been warned he faces a jail sentence after he admitted slashing two women at a rugby club with a Stanley knife.
Kai Webb changed his pleas when he appeared at Exeter Crown Court by video link from Exeter Prison and will be sentenced on August 1.
Webb, Teignmouth, pleaded guilty to wounding Ashley Bellamy and causing actual bodily harm to Courtney McLaughlin.
He had already admitted possessing a Stanley knife as an offensive weapon at Teignmouth Rugby Club at Bitton Park Road on the night of May 23, this year.
Judge Geoffrey Mercer, QC, remanded him in custody and told him an immediate prison sentence is inevitable. He ordered a short stand-down probation report to be given orally on the day of sentence.
He said:’This man has a record which at the age of 20 causes some concern.’
Miss Rachel Drake, prosecuting, said it has been decided not to pursue a more serious charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
She said:’The view we have taken is that he clearly did intend to cause the wound to Miss Bellamy but that the injury is not serious enough to be considered to be grievous bodily harm.
’I am hoping to obtain an up to date victim impact statement and medical evidence about whether there will be scarring.’
Mr Lee Bremridge, defending, said he is not applying for a psychiatric or probation report.
He said:’There is inevitably going to be an immediate sentence and I can tell the court about whatever mitigation there may be and the background to this offence.’
