POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision on the A380 near Newton Abbot in the early hours of this morning (Saturday July 17).
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 4.10am today following a collision between a male pedestrian and an an ambulance.
A police spokesman said: ‘A man sustained serious injuries and was taken to Torbay District Hospital but despite the efforts of medical staff, he sadly died.’
‘We are working with the South Western Ambulance Service Trust to investigate the circumstances that led to the collision and would ask that people do not speculate about the cause.’
Both carriageways were closed for a time and the northbound carriageway from Kingskerwell to Penn Inn remained closed until lunchtime while investigation work was carried out.
The police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, has any information or dashcam footage which may have captured either the vehicle or the pedestrian prior to the collision that could help them with their enquiries.
