POLICE in unmarked cars have hit the road in Teignbridge and other force areas to catch motorists committing the ‘fatal four offences’.
They are out to catch regular rogues of the road whose quartet of abuses comprise speeding, seat-belt offences, distraction driving and motoring under the influence of alcohol.
The initiative comes hot on the heels of a week-long campaign aimed at motorists using their mobiles behind the wheel.
A spokesman said: ‘At this time of the year, with worsening driving conditions, we want to ask drivers to be sensible. Don’t take unnecessary risks and be considerate to other road users.’
Roads Policing Inspector Pete Thomas said: ‘Please don’t risk it. People are killed and seriously injured on our roads. It devastates families. Drive sensibly, and don’t take risks.
‘Be patient and allow a little extra time for journeys. Leave ample space for the vehicle in front and make sure you are road legal.’
