ANOTHER arrest has been made in London in connection with a flurry of frauds targeting pensioners in Teignbridge and the rest of Devon.
Police confirmed this week that a man in the Plumstead area of the capital was detained as part of inquiries into a series of cold-call telephone scams aimed at the elderly.
Devon and Cornwall Police, as part of their Operation Fardel initiative, linked up with Metropolitan Police colleagues to swoop at the address in the south east of the city.
The man, in his 20s, was later released on police bail pending further inquiries. He is due to answer his bail in April next year.
Numerous arrests have been made across London in the wake of the sustained assault on pensioners who have lost hundreds of thousands of pounds to the swindlers over the last three years - some of them in Newton Abbot and surrounding areas.
Earlier this month police repeated warnings for the elderly to be on their guard after the con artists struck in Totnes and Plympton.
A familiar ruse used by the crooks is to pretend to be police officers investigating thefts. They then proceed to extract secret financial information out of victims, including PIN numbers, before plundering their accounts.
Police are anxious to remind people never to disclose sensitive financial information over the phone.
