A NEWTON Abbot fire crew was called out to an oven fire in Torquay this afternoon (Sunday).

The crew joined other fire engines from Torquay and Paignton to deal with the fire at a flat in St Marychurch Road, Torquay.

On arrival crews found a fire in the oven of a ground floor flat and set to work using two sets of breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and a fire extinguisher.

Fortunately the fire was confined to the oven and caused only minimal damage.
