WITNESSES are being sought after a 48-year-old man was assaulted on Teignmouth seafront.

The attack happened at Den Promenade just after 1am yesterday.

Police say the victim suffered a broken leg and ankle in the incident. He also sustained a head injury.

It’s understood the casualty and his assailant - in his 30s - had been involved in an earlier altercation at a local pub.

Their set-to continued outside, resulting in the seafront offence in the early hours.

Police and paramedics attended the incident.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to Torbay Hospital where he was due to undergo surgery.

A police spokesman urged witnesses to contact officers with any information they had about the matter.

They should ring 101, quoting crime CR/028307/16.
