TRAIN services in and out of Newton Abbot were disrupted last night (Sunday, November 25) after a man fell and injured himself on the track at Teignmouth’s station.
All three emergency services dealt with the incident after the alarm was raised just before 9pm.
Paramedics gave the casualty first aid at the scene before he was flown by helicopter to Torbay Hospital for further treatment.
It’s understood the injured man fell at a ‘great height’ from a wall to land on the line.
A police helicopter crew helped illuminate the scene as first aid was administered in situ before the flight to hospital.
The name of the casualty is not known.
The Devon Air Ambulance also responded to the incident, landing at nearby Teignmouth Rugby Club.
Early reports suggested he may have jumped or fallen from the wall just outside the station.
A fire crew from Dawlish helped carry vital equipment to and from the site of the incident.
Paramedics spent about an hour treating the man on the track before his evacuation.
Train services were resumed by 11pm.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said this afternoon (Monday 26): ‘Officers were called to Teignmouth station at 8.54pm yesterday after reports that a man had fallen from a wall onto the tracks.
‘Colleagues from the ambulance service also attended and a man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.’
He added: ‘This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious.’
