An excluded customer has denied arming himself with a makeshift knuckle duster during an argument with doormen at a night club.
Liam Hill, aged 22, of Kingsway, Teignmouth, pleaded not guilty to having a safety pin from a fire extinguisher as an offensive weapon.
Police say it was an improvised knuckleduster but he says he picked it up in the street and put it in his pocket because he thought it was a ring.
Hill has admitted possessing a lock knife which was found by door staff in his sock on New Year’s Eve last year.
The fresh offence allegedly occurred when he went back to Retro’s club in Northumberland Place, Teignmouth, two weeks later on January 14.
Judge Geoffrey Mercer, QC, adjourned the weapons case for a trial at Exeter Crown Court and released Hill on bail.
