A MAN and a woman from Devon have been arrested on suspicion of people smuggling after a boat carrying eight passengers ran aground off Horse Cove between Teignmouth and Dawlish, this afternoon (Monday).

The incident happened at 4.10pm and all eight adult passengers have been safely taken to a centre run by Devon and Cornwall Police.

A police spokesperson said: ‘The two people arrested are in police custody.

The vessel is in the process of being made secure.

‘Today’s arrests by officers from the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SW ROCU), supported by Border Force, the NCA, Devon and Cornwall Police, Immigration Enforcement and HM Coastguard, are part of an ongoing investigation into people smuggling.’
