AN 86-year-old man from Newton Abbot has appeared before the town’s magistrates charged with possessing hundreds of extreme pornographic images.

Robert Sutherland, of Blenheim Close in Highweek, allegedly had images of a person performing a sexual act with an unknown animal.

He also faces three charges of making indecent images of a child back in 2009.

The animal charge, dating between 2008 to 2011, specifies 748 images and 149 moving images which were deemed to be grossly offensive or disgusting.

The three other charges involved 249 indecent images.

Mr Sutherland didn’t enter a plea in court on Wednesday afternoon and was released on unconditional bail.

He will appear before Exeter Crown Court on October 20.
