A HIT and run hunt was launched in Teignmouth after a pedestrian was injured in a road accident early today (Wed).

Police searched the resort after a 30-year-old man suffered head injuries in collision with a car in Northumberland Place.

The alarm was raised just after 2am and an ambulance crew rushed to the scene.

The casualty, who has not been named, was treated by paramedics before being taken by ambulance to Torbay Hospital’s accident and emergency department.

Police say a vehicle was later spotted being driven erratically around the resort.

A man who left a vehicle was then seen in the Exeter Road area near the railway station. A police dog was brought in to help track the suspect.

Police confirmed a 23-year-old man from the Dawlish area was arrested about 3am in the Landscore Road area of Teignnmouth. He was detained and taken to Torquay Police Station’s custody centre for questioning.
