POLICE were alerted after two youths were seen lurking on the rooftops of town centre shops in Newton Abbot.

The force helicopter flew from Exeter to search for the nocturnal duo seen in the Courtenay Street area atop W H Smith and Superdrug on Sunday night.

The aircraft crew used night-vision cameras to search for the pair while officers on the ground made their own checks.

A police spokesman said after the drama that nothing untoward was located in the area.

‘No-one was seen – and no damage to property was found,’ he said.

The alarm was raised at 9.30pm.
