A BEDROOM caught fire in Fisher Road, Newton Abbot, yesterday evening (Friday).

A spokesperson for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said they received an emergency call at around 8.40pm

Two fire appliances from Newton Abbot were immediately sent by Fire Control.

The spokesperson said: ‘On arrival, the Incident Commander confirmed that there was a fire in the first floor bedroom of the property and got crews to work with breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet, safety jet, covering jet and a thermal imaging camera.

‘The fire, thought to have started accidentally, caused about 10 per cent fire damage to the bedroom and severe smoke damage to the rest of the first floor.’
