FIREFIGHTERS from Newton Abbot were called in to help tackle a large garage fire.

The alarm was raised on Saturday morning that the garage of a property in Torquay was well alight.

Crews who arrived on the scene first called for more help from other appliances.

Five crews overall were brought in with four firefighters wearing sets of breathing gear.

They used two hose reel jets, a safety jet, small tools and a thermal imaging camera to check for spots of fire.

The fire involved a single storey timber garage and workshop with a hot tub and decking.

It caused significant damage and the cause is still being investigated.
