FIRE crews from Newton Abbot, Teignmouth and Bovey Tracey joined the overnight battle against a fire at a block of flats in Torquay.

They were among crews from across South Devon after the fire was reported at around 1am this morning (Tuesday).

A spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘The Incident commander requested the assistance of another four fire appliances which were mobilised from Teignmouth and Newton Abbot.

‘The fire on the third floor of a derelict building spread through the roof. An incident support unit from Bovey Tracey has also been mobilised, along with the water bowser from Torquay.’

Some crews remain at the scene this morning dampening down the block of derelict flats in the Ellacombe area of the town.
