A YOUNG family quit their home on Newton Abbot’s Buckland estate after
fire alarms were triggered.
Two fire crews from the town rushed to the scene on Saturday morning to find a defective kettle had caused the blaze alert.
A fire spokesman explained that the kettle filled the kitchen with steam after failing to disconnect automatically.
The rush of vapours caused the smoke detector to scream into action.
