A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital after her car collided with a towing tractor on the A38 outside Chudleigh.

The Exeter-bound carriageway was closed for two hours this afternoon while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

The Devon Air Ambulance landed at the scene just after 3pm to ferry the casualty to Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital. She suffered head and back injuries.

The woman’s Plymouth-registered Vauxhall Astra was in collision with the tractor, towing a tanker from Honiton, at Harcombe Cross.

A male passenger in the Astra suffered cuts to his hand. He was taken by land ambulance to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
