THREE e-scooters and one electric motocross bike have been seized by police in Dawlish.
The scooters were seized after being use illegally on public roads and pavements while the bike was identified having been ridden unlawfully in the town.
The confiscations were carried out during a proactive police enforcement operation in Dawlish aimed at improving road safety and addressing concerns raised by the local community.
The operation formed part of ongoing efforts to tackle the unlawful use of electric vehicles in public spaces, with officers conducting patrols in areas where reports of anti-social and dangerous riding had been received.
Residents in the town have repeatedly complained about scooters and bikes being ridden illegally and in an anti-social way on pavements and streets.
PC Ben Chadwick, from the Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: ‘We regularly receive reports from members of the public about the dangerous and inconsiderate use of e-scooters and off-road bikes within our communities.
‘While we understand the appeal of these vehicles, many people are unaware of the legislation surrounding their use.
‘Privately owned e-scooters cannot be ridden on public roads, pavements or other public places, and off-road bikes must comply with legal requirements if they are to be used on the highway.
‘This action in Dawlish resulted in the seizure of three e-scooters and an electric motocross bike.
‘We will continue to listen to community concerns and carry out targeted enforcement where necessary to keep residents and visitors safe.’
Police are reminding the public to familiarise themselves with the laws surrounding e-scooters and electric motorcycles before purchasing or using them.
Anyone who witnesses the illegal use of e-scooters, off-road bikes or other vehicles causing concern is encouraged to report it via the Devon and Cornwall Police website or by calling 101.
