TWO builders made an explosive discovery while at work near Bovey Tracey today (Weds Oct 11th).
Mark Hellier and Mark Stafford were busy renovating buildings at Ullacombe Farm when they unearthed ordnance dating back to the First World War.
The duo found the 25lb shell in a wall at the cafe’s farm complex.
A Royal Navy bomb disposal team from Plymouth rushed to the scene to examine the device. However, due to corrosion on the device they couldn’t tell if the device was live or not.
A spokesman for the Royal Navy said: “ In these circumstances we always assume that a device is live and so a controlled explosion was successfully carried out in a remote field.”
