FIRE crews from Ashburton came to the rescue when a baby became locked inside a car.

The alarm was raised just before 10am on Wednesday when the nine-month-old was accidentally locked in the vehicle at Higher Moor.

One fire crew from the town went to the scene where they were able to gain access to the car using small tools. The baby was freed unharmed.
