POLICE across Devon and Cornwall dealt with more than 1,000 incidents on what had been called ’Super Saturday’.

As pubs reopened for the first time in three months police officers patrolled key areas proven to be hot spots for drinking and antisocial behaviour.

By the end of the evening there were reports of police being in incidents at Newton Abbot and Teignmouth.

By 7pm on ’Super Saturday’, the force warned that it was seeing an increase in the number of incidents being reported.

The force tweeted: ’We’re starting to see an increase in reports of disorder and drink related ASB across of the force including Barnstaple, Newquay Torquay, Teignmouth.

‘Please drink responsibly and think about your actions. Officers will take proactive action where necessary.’

By 10pm, police confirmed they reached 1,000 logs in one day, with it still ’set to rise’.

In another tweet the police said: ’We have just topped 1,000 police logs for today, with two hours left to go. Stay safe.

’If you are out this weekend, please have a great time but be respectful of our communities and of other people.’

In the run-up to the weekend Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer had advised people: ‘Social distancing still needs to be observed and everyone must play their part to prevent the virus spreading and not bring more misery upon our communities.

‘Play your part and behave in a way that respects our communities, supports the local economy, but ultimately keep yourself and others safe.’

‘We have just topped 1,000 police logs for today, with two hours left to go. The majority of reports this evening have been linked to drink related disorder and anti-social behaviour.’
