THE 20th anniversary Bishopsteignton Village Show was one to remember.

’Everybody pulled out all the stops, and the exhibits seemed particuarly wonderful and special this year,’ said the chairman, Roy Halsey.

It took place in the community centre at the weekend, and there were 75 different classes encompassing baskets of flowers, fruit and veg, cookery, pictures and crafts.

’As always the show attracted a great crowd who come along to enjoy browsing all the fabulous exhibits. We were blessed with good weather too, which is always nice because, although it is held indoors, we have stalls outside and people are much more inclined to go out and about when the sun is shining,’ Mr Halsey added.

Winners of trophies this year include John Williams, Charles Egar, Janette Chaplin-Fisher, Nina Down and Rosemary Darby, and the prizes were given out by Alison Prestt.

The show is very much a team effort. Headed by Mr Halsey and his wife Jackie, who is secretary, there is a very hard-working committee who ensure that the event goes swimmingly. The kitchen crew of Sarah Cockerton and her team provide lunch for the judges on Saturday, and cream teasand cakes throughout the weekend, and sploughman’s lunches for visitors on Sunday.

The show is funded by gsponsorship from local businesses and individuals, along with the proceeds from a raffle, which is again, largely sponsored. Enough money is put aside from the profit to run the following year’s show, along with donations to various groups or causes in Bishopsteignton.
