A HOUSING developer has submitted a planning application seeking permission to build more than 100 dwellings in Chudleigh.

The application, which has been submitted by Wain Homes (South West) Limited, was received by Teignbridge District Council (TDC) in September and, if given the green light, would see 142 homes erected on land near Old Kate Bridge in Chudleigh.

In addition to the dwellings aforementioned, the application is seeking permission for associated landscaping, open space, access, a pedestrian bridge and infrastructure, as well as outline planning permission for eight self-build plots.

On October 6, Chudleigh Town Council, via the authority’s Facebook page, made Chudleighians aware of the planning application in a post, which garnered much comment.

Carol Perry said: ‘Absolute nightmare, Chudleigh is struggling as it is with ancient sewerage pipes etc.

‘Our lanes are going to be so dangerous to walk, cycle and ride along as they are single tracks with blind bends and no passing places.’

Another resident of Chudleigh, one Andrew Snell, was also unimpressed.

‘Another 142 houses?

‘Where are they going to go to school? Doctors? Dentist?

‘The local facilities are already struggling,’ Andrew said.
