EIGHTEEN much-needed affordable homes are being handed over to residents in Chudleigh Knighton.

The new houses have been built through a partnership between housing association Teign Housing and housebuilder Baker Estates.

Situated in the heart of the village, the development Turnpike Field includes affordable rent and shared ownership homes which are helping to meet local demand for housing.

Graham Hutton, Deputy Managing Director of Baker Estates, and Tom Woodman, Chief Executive of Teign Housing, took a tour of the development.

Tom said: ‘We’ve been very impressed with the first phase of Turnpike Fields and equally pleased to see progress and the quality of the homes being handed over.

‘Affordable quality homes are incredibly important to all communities, and it’s great to be part of achieving this in Chudleigh Knighton.’

Graham added: ‘This is an important investment in quality, new affordable properties in Chudleigh Knighton which has been welcomed by local people.

‘That’s just one of the big benefits of new build developments.

‘We are delighted to have entered a partnership with Teign Housing on this development, and for these affordable homes to be enjoyed by local families for years to come.’

Teign Housing, a non-profit landlord managing more than 4,000 homes in South Devon, says it is committed to addressing local housing needs through high-quality, sustainable solutions.

Through the £1.7 million Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) contribution, the development will support essential infrastructure improvements to benefit the wider community.

Graham added: ‘A new housing development brings benefits to communities well beyond just the new homes themselves.

‘We will also be paying £1.7m in Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) to the council specifically to provide the local infrastructure enhancements that the community wants.

‘Fifteen percent of this figure goes directly to the parish council and is therefore targeted to bring benefits locally.’
