Extending site ‘would impact on landscape’
Friday, 03 August 2012
Enough is enough, says council
Parish councillors say there should be no long term extension of the Heathfield landfill site between Chudleigh and Kingsteignton.
They maintain residents in Chudleigh Knighton, Hennock and Teign Village have accepted enough major environmental changes.
Hennock councillors agree the site should be in the Devon Waste Plan Strategy, but that enough is enough.
Much of the landfill could be used for energy, but that is no reason to think an incinerator should be built there, they said.
In a letter responding to the plan preferred strategy, site options and draft policies, it says it is concerned that this appears to be treated as a soft option when compared with any potential new site and, as a result, its environmental impacts have not been given the weight they merit.
